It is refreshing to read a book by an author who is not afraid to use the ‘F’ word. I mean, of course, ‘Fortunetelling’. Although I would not like to return to the old days when tarot cards were used to predict that a client was ‘going to meet a tall dark have some stranger’, I do feel that in recent years many readers have developed an aversion to the word ‘fortunetelling’.
This new book by certified tarot master Corrine Kenner encourages newcomers to tarot how to combine wisdom from the cards with intuition to gain understanding of the past, the present and the future.
The first half of the book covers all the basics about tarot, including history, frequent questions, spreads and psychic readings. The second half covers all 78 cards. Approximately three pages are devoted to each card and black and white illustrations of the Rider-Waite, the Llewelyn tarot and the Thoth are included for each card. Following explanations of each of the three cards’ imagery, there is a section called ‘What Does Your Future Hold’. This contains details of the cards’ various meanings. Also given are keywords, mythic connections, numeralogical and astrological associations.
The book concludes with some sample readings and a comprehensive index.
I liked the author’s entertaining and practical style, which is aimed at encouraging readers to think for themselves. Although aimed at beginners, I am sure that experienced readers would gain from reading this book.
