One of life's little pleasures is getting a new deck.
Usually, when I get a new deck, I look through it, browse through the LWB or Companion Book and concentrate on if I am making a good connection with the deck.
The_Surfacer, a Tarotist from Alberta, Canada, created this New Deck Spread to use when with a new deck to get a better understanding of the deck and how you'll get along.
I'm going to go back and use this spread with decks I initially didn't really feel I connected with to see what comes out. It's kind of a second chance. :)

Hi, Gayla!
A quick question, since I do have a new deck and would like to try this layout later this afternoon: What is the meaning of the 8th card? Unless I missed something, that's not on the chart.
Thanks, and have a wonderful day!

Oh, I'm glad you caught that..this is the correct layout. I'll fix the graphic Monday.
1) point of connection - why this deck now?
2) what the deck brings to this partnership; its special attributes
3) what you bring to the partnership; your special attributes
4) what you can accomplish with the deck, how you can use it
5) what you can learn from the deck
6) a relevant facet of your personality
7) a relevant facet of the deck's personality
8) how your personalities mesh

Hi, Gayla! Thanks, again! I tried this out with my new Golden Botticelli deck, and it revealed a rather strong spiritual personality in the deck. In fact, scratch that! It was more about personalities than personality, if you catch my drift. A very useful layout and a very powerful new deck of cards.
All the best!
