The Associated Press reports New Orleans continues to struggle two years after Hurricane Katrine.
However, Tarot Reader Otis Briggs reports, "There's hope", as he lays the cards for the Big Easy in this video reading where he looks into the future of New Orleans and what it will be like in 2015, 10 years after Hurricane Katrina.
I'm not sure I agree with Mr Briggs' interpretation on some of the cards, but his New Orleans accent is wonderful and delightfully entertaining.
For example, he opens with the 9 of Swords and says it reveals New Orleans is going forward and getting bigger and better. Most would agree the 9 of Swords is a card of worry and anguish.
However, he does reveal New Orleans has been taken through a spiritual cleansing and good karma prevails. It's hard to see all the cards, but the Star, Lovers and Strength appear in the spread, which is obviously a good sign for the future of the Big Easy.
Keeping hope alive there probably isn't very easy, but is a good things Tarot Readers like Mr Briggs is sticking around the see New Orleans through these troubled times.

This article reminded me of my two experiences receiving Tarot card readings in New Orleans, first in 2004 and again in 2006. On both occasions, the same reader had set up her purple-draped table on the same corner of Jackson Square. Also, on both occasions, I had the distinct feeling that she was reading me as clearly as she was reading the cards. But that second reading, post-Katrina, had a current flowing through it that ran far deeper than my individual questions and concerns. At the last, when the reader asked me to draw three cards, I first drew the Sun, then the Tower, but the last card simply jumped out of the deck into my hand--and it was the Lovers. Like Otis Briggs, I'm hopeful for New Orleans.
