You might ask why am I reviewing a book about Voodoo and I have to admit that it is true that this book does not directly refer to Tarot. However, here are several references to divination in the book and those alone make it worth reading.
The main reason though why I suggest that anyone interested in Tarot might benefit from reading the book is the following quote.
"He is usually pictured as an old man, bent with age, poor and humble, dressed in ragged clothes. He may also be lame and carrying a stick and a small bag, which contains all his worldly possessions. A dog runs beside him, his only friend in the world."
Sounds rather like The Fool from almost any pre-Rider-Waite deck, doesn’t it? However, the person being described is the Voodoo spirit Legba!
There are other descriptions of Voodoo spirits that bear striking resemblances to Tarot figures. For example, some people will feel that Erzulie is similar to The Empress.
The author of the book, Kathleen Charlotte, is a UK-based therapist, healer and relationship counsellor who combines psychology with Voodoo magic.
In clear and simple terms Kathleen dispels many misconceptions about Voodoo and shows how to work with some of Voodoo’s helpful spirits to attract and keep a lover. (Assuming, of course, that you want to keep a lover!) She also offers practical advice on communication, forgiveness, intimacy and self-esteem.
This is a straightforward introduction to Voodoo and to the ‘love Magic’ aspects of Voodoo. I recommend it to anyone who would like to find out more about this fascinating subject.
Finally, I am sure that the question you are all asking is "Does any of this actually work?" The answer is simple YES IT DOES! I’ll say no more …
