As Mark told us back in January, Spanish metal band Dark Moor is releasing a new CD titled Tarot which comes out in the U.S. on May 22, 2007.
In the middle of a tour in Spain, Dark Moor took time out of their busy schedule to answer a few of my questions about Tarot and their musical influences:
Janet: Thank you so much for taking some time from your busy tour, guys! To start off who are your musical influences?
Dark Moor: We have a lot of influences. Principally: classic music, with comoposers like Mozart, Bethoveen, Vivaldi, Holst or more actually like Dany Elfman or John Williams. In the rock style we like bands like Queen, Rainbow, Iron Maiden or Helloween.
Janet: When/how did you become acquainted with Tarot cards?
Dark Moor: Our good friend and collaborator Francisco Jose Garcia knows the Tarot and like it a lot. He has different tarots and knows how to read the cards. We begin to know the Tarot with him.
Janet: What made you choose Tarot as the theme for your newest CD?
Dark Moor: We wanted a conceptual album and thought that the tarot gave us the possibility to make it. Because each song is individual into the concept of the album, this idea was very interesting to work with.
Janet: What are your favorite Tarot cards--and why?
Dark Moor: I like specially the Hanged Man for all its meaning, related with alchemy in the history. I like too the Death and the Stars because for me are reborn and beauty. The Moon is a special card for me too, I love the moon… like a wolf!
Janet: Thank you so much for your time! Tarot is on my Amazon WishList, so as soon as it's released here in the USA, I'm snatching up a copy. Good luck and have a great tour through Latin America! To read more intereviews with Dark Moor, as well as sample their mp3's and videos (check out The Chariot!), you can visit them at their web home here and at their official YouTube site.
Editors note: English is not Dark Moor's native tongue, so while I edited the interview a bit for ease of reading, I tried to keep the spirit of their enthusiasm intact. These sweethearts apologized profusely for the delay in getting the interview questions back to me, bless their heart!

Here's another Mozart/Tarot connection. Mozart, an Austrian, used Tarot cards to play an older form of Tarock.
